It was a cold spring morning as the Waverly Little League began clearing the press box of last year's debris, in preparation for the new season of ball. Hidden away, deep beneath the piles of old scorebooks, helmets and jerseys; was a small white box, withered and damp from years of exposure The box contained pictures from the 1940's and 50's of the fields being leveled, the bleachers erected, and the dugouts constructed. It also included faces of our early players, umpires, coaches, parades and games. In honor of the communities long standing love of the game, 320 photos were digitized and made available through Shutterfly. Additionally, the Waverly Library and Bakley Photo developed a historic exhibition of the project; including canvas art and bound albums. While this exhibition aims to protect and preserve local history, it also serves to celebrate generations of community involvement in the Waverly Little League organization, established in 1949. The project was made possible with funding from the Community Foundation for South Central New York-Broome Library Foundation Fund.
