Watersheds of New York State

New York State is richly endowed with more than 7,600 freshwater lakes, ponds and reservoirs divided into 17 watersheds, or drainage basins. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, of the world's total water, only 3% is freshwater. Of that 3%, only 0.3% is ground water in the form of lakes, rivers & swamps (0.09% of the total).
