Mary Louise Booth (1831-1889) was an early womens rights activist, as the Secretary of the Womens Rights Congress in Saratoga in 1855, and in NYC at Cooper Union in 1860. She developed a prospectus for the first Womans Journal in 1862, but it never went to publication due to the looming Civil War. Instead she went to Washington, DC to write for the Union League, and was thanked by President Abraham Lincoln for her efforts.

Susan B. Anthony asked her to be Vice President in 1872, and she sent written support for every congress until her death in 1889. She wrote the first History of the City of NY, was the founding Editor of Harpers Bazar, translated 47 books, worked on bringing the Statue of Liberty to NY. House ...Search ...Map
